Treatment

Sexual behavior disorders and related issues

Our program was designed especially for men dealing with sex addiction or other sexual disorders or compulsions, many of which may have trauma at their core. That’s why we treat the whole person to provide lasting healing.

From Pleasure to Problem

We recognize that sex is part of a normal, healthy life, but when sexual activities or thoughts become consuming or habit-forming, it crosses the line into addiction.

How can someone know if their behavior has moved from a healthy enjoyment of sex to a disorder that needs professional assistance? Indications of problematic sexual behavior include:

  • Loss of control of behaviors
  • Preoccupation with sexual acting out
  • Significant adverse consequences
  • Continuation despite consequences

Our Program

Gentle Path offers an intensive, experiential-based 45-day treatment program for men who are struggling with sex addiction and trauma or other co-occurring disorders. Dr. Patrick Carnes, a world-renowned expert on sex addiction and treatment, worked with us to create a program that allows men to deal with their sexual compulsions and examine the tangled web of trauma, love, addictive sex, hate, and fear often found in family relationships. By providing patients with the most progressive and well-researched sex addiction and trauma treatment available, we have succeeded even with those who have failed at past treatments attempts.

What We Treat

We address a wide range of sexual addiction issues as well as any underlying emotional trauma or co-occurring substance misuse, as we’ve found these disorders often go hand in hand.

Sexual Addiction Issues

We offer confidential, in-depth treatment for everything from sexual compulsion and pornography addiction to relationship addiction and sexual anorexia or any other sexual behaviors causing you distress. We also address internet sex addiction and understand the unique issues that go along with sex addiction in young adults.

Trauma

We believe trauma underlies nearly all conditions, including sex addiction. Whether related to addiction, family-of-origin issues, or abuse, trauma can reverberate through every facet of our lives, following us into adulthood. When not addressed, trauma inhibits us from living in the present and truly thriving.

Co-Occurring Disorders

A dual diagnosis is simply the presence of two or more disorders at the same time. Those dealing with sex addiction issues often have a co-occurring substance use disorder or mental health condition that contributes to the problem. Self-medicating with drugs or alcohol exacerbates other issues, so it’s important to address root causes.

A Disorder, Not a Weakness

Those dealing with sex addiction or sexual disorders will continue to engage in sexual behavior despite financial problems, potential arrest, health risks, or broken relationships. The condition can destroy relationships and cause an individual to feel enslaved by their addiction to sexual thoughts and acts.

Sexual addicts experience tremendous amounts of guilt and shame over their behavior because they feel out of control and live in constant fear of being discovered. This is part of what drives the addictive cycle, but like other forms of addiction, sex addicts are not in control and cannot stop their behaviors, no matter how self-destructive and potentially devastating the consequences may be.
